By dining on this Devil Fruit Luffy earned a rubber-bodied physique however he lost his swimming capabilities. Through all his difficulties Luffy held onto his dream of attaining pirate greatness.
Shanks making a heartfelt bond with Luffy
When the mountain bandits assembled under Higuma to assault Luffy as well as the villagers at their settlement proved to be their defining moment together. When Shanks shielded Luffy the Sea King attacked both of them leaving him with a missing left arm that saved Luffy from certain death. Luffy developed an enduring determination to become a legendary pirate after this moment of selfless commitment.
At their farewell Shanks presented Luffy with his signature Strawhat while requiring him to return it as soon as he became “a strong pirate.” The Strawhat was given to shanks by the Pirate King Gol D Roger himself. Luffy acquired his “Straw Hat Luffy” moniker because of this. While giving the hat Shanks asked Luffy to return the hat to him once he becomes a greater pirate than him.
The Reflection of Roger on Luffy
During the Wano Arc, Luffy tells his crew about his real dream to his crew which overjoys them. Luffy stated that Shanks was in tears when Luffy told him about his dream. In that point Shanks was in tears because Luffy have the same dream as Roger’s but due to his illness he couldn’t achieve the dream. Shanks became emotionally connected to Luffy when saw a reflection of his Captain, Roger within Luffy.
Why did Shanks refuses to meet Luffy?
After their first meet at Foosha Village, Shanks never met Luffy. Even when Shanks arrived to Wano they both were close to meet each other, Shanks refused to meet Luffy. What is the actual reason of Shanks not meeting Luffy for all these years? The actual reason behind this maybe Shanks was protecting Luffy all these years as he had ate the Gomu Gomu fruit which was revealed to be Nika which is the most hidden devil fruit by the marine and five elders. When Shanks stole the fruit, the marine should have a track on him about the whereabouts of the fruit and it’s eater. Shanks avoided meeting Luffy to protect him and keep the fact the hidden that he was one who ate the Gomu Gomu fruit. Shanks gave the time to Luffy to perfect his devil fruit abilities and powers when marine approach him to capture him.
