From his pirate exploits in the early days to his agonizing defeat at the hands of Shanks, Kid’s existence is triumph and defeat. His history of becoming a feared pirate, his capture by Kaido, his victory against Big Mom with Law, and his decisive defeat by Shanks is all a part of his character development

Journey to Acquire One Piece
From the beginning, Eustass Kid was among the best of the Worst Generation pirates. He was a native of South Blue, a captain of the Kid Pirates, and had a huge bounty, only second to Luffy’s among supernova rookies in the Sabaody Archipelago. Unlike Luffy, who values friendship and alliances, Kid was notorious for his violent and ferocious means of being a pirate. He gained popularity overnight by intimidating and murdering people who laughed at his desire to obtain the One Piece.

Throughout the Sabaody Archipelago arc, Kid is depicted as a reckless and ambitious pirate. He was made to be resilient because of his abilities through the Magnet-Magnet Fruit. His propensity to take unnecessary risks would land him in dangerous battles that resulted in marking his path.
Captured by Kaido
Kid’s downfall began when he tried to vanquish the Yonko, something most pirates would never dream of trying without any strategizing. Kid had, with his closest buddies Scratchmen Apoo and Basil Hawkins, intended to assassinate Red-Haired Shanks. They were, however, ambushed by Apoo, who was an undercover agent working for Kaido. Kid and Killer were thus arrested by Kaido and imprisoned at Udon Prison in Wano.

Kid struggled terribly during his period at Udon, losing his right-hand man Killer to the schemes of Orochi. Killer was forced to consume a SMILE fruit against his will and lost his emotional capabilities. This devastating blow only strengthened Kid’s desire for vengeance. Unlike Luffy, who has the help of his crew members and friends, Kid is forced to struggle alone. His determination and resilience saw him through, and he finally escaped prison, rejoining Killer and joining the fight against Big Mom and Kaido.
Eustass vs Big Mom
With the fight of Onigashima, Kid allied with an unexpected Worst Generation pirate of Heart Pirates Trafalgar Law. Even though those two captains always considered themselves to be rivals in advance and never stood united on anything, it dawned on them that since both of their positions were very safe, creating a temporary bond of friendship with each other for the win was not out of the question. Along with him, they even fought against Big Mom, the brutal Big Mom tyrannical ruler of Totto Land and in the world’s strongest pirate list, in this battle.

Despite seemingly hopeless odds, Kid and Law pushed themselves to their limits in a bid to defeat Big Mom. Kid’s Devil Fruit ability gave him the ability to create vast electromagnetic fields and giant metal structures, whereas Law’s Ope Ope no Mi hurt her inner body. The constant onslaught of the two eventually made Big Mom fall to the ground, a monumental feat that shook the world. This victory solidified Kid’s position in history as being one of the rare few to have ever defeated a Yonko in combat.

Once the battle was over, Kid’s bounty skyrocketed, and he became a yet more infamous name. But his aspirations for power and control never faltered. With Kaido and Big Mom downed, Kid continued staring at Red-Haired Shanks, the Yonko he originally wanted to challenge prior to Kaido’s interference.

Shanks Defeats Kidd
Upon departing Wano, Kid and his crew traveled to Elbaf, where they encountered the Red-Haired Pirates. With his newfound strength and victory, Kid was sure he could take down Shanks. Unfortunately, what he received was a crushing reality check. Unlike Big Mom, who was not prepared for Kid and Law’s alliance, Shanks was prepared. His strength, experience, and Haki superiority were on a different plane. Kid and Shanks’ battle was short but ferocious. Shanks destroyed Kid and his soldiers with one crushing blow, with no room left for them to defend themselves. The demoralizing loss not only crushed Kid’s dream but also proved the disparity in power between the new generation and the legendary sea heroes.

Shanks didn’t only defeat Kid – he shattered the Kidd Pirates’ morale. The crew stayed in shambles, their delusions shattered. Kid who struggled so much to be on top was finally reminded that in One Piece, pure ambition will not suffice to rule the Grand Line.
Can we expect the return of the Kidd Pirates
Eustass Kid’s journey in One Piece is that of ambition, resolve, and ultimate destruction. He was among the most promising talents of the Worst Generation, breaking into conventions and challenging the world’s greatest pirates. His victory at Big Mom’s hands was a milestone of resistance, a demonstration of his ability to defeat the Yonko. Yet his own pride convinced him to dismiss all vulnerabilities, including those of his arch-enemy Shanks, ultimately leading to his destruction.

Kid’s tale is a reminder of the perils of thoughtlessness in the One Piece universe. Though his talent and willpower were fixed, his inability to grasp the actual strength of his enemies was what brought about his fall. Whether Kid ever emerges from this defeat remains uncertain, but as a gallant and courageous pirate, he shall not be forgotten.
