The world of Demon Slayer is filled with powerful warriors, but one name stands out above the rest Yorichii Tsugikuni, the legendary swordsman of the past. Yorichii is widely regarded as the strongest Demon Slayer in history, while Tanjiro’s rapid growth and incredible feats have left fans wondering: Has Tanjiro finally surpassed Yorichii?

Yorichii Tsugikuni: The Strongest of Them All
Yorichii Tsugikuni is a legendary figure in the Demon Slayer universe, often described as an unparalleled swordsman. He was the original user of the Sun Breathing technique, the most powerful and foundational Breathing Style from which all others were derived. Yorichii possessed extraordinary natural talent, able to use the Transparent World since his birth—allowing him to see the flow of blood and muscles in his opponents—and his overwhelming speed made him nearly untouchable in battle.
The biggest fight that he did with Muzan Kibutsuji, Demon King, whom no other Demon Slayer had pushed so close to his death. For Muzan, though the Demon is regenerated and very skillful at avoiding attacks, still, the attacks of Yorichii have been threatening the demon’s survival and existence, so eventually, he never faced Yorichii after that.
Yorichii’s legacy continued through the generations, with his techniques preserved in the Sun Breathing style and his influence living on through the Demon Slayer Corps. His level of skill and power was so immense that even Upper-Rank demons feared his very name.
Tanjiro Kamado: The Successor of Sun Breathing

From extremely modest beginnings, Tanjiro Kamado begins, his family tragically slaughtered by demons. Determined, Tanjiro rises in the ranks of the Demon Slayer Corps at a record pace, mastering several Breathing Techniques, such as Water Breathing and later Sun Breathing, the style of Yorichii.
Tanjiro’s growth in the series is amazing. He perfects his swordsmanship, endurance, and mental toughness, always exceeding his limits time and again. He unlocks the ability to see the Transparent World, heightening his battle instincts and allowing him to fight at speeds beyond human limits. During the final fight against Muzan, Tanjiro indeed showcases his incredible strength and tenacity. The fact that he can confront Muzan even at his weakened stage is made possible through his Sun breathing along with his unbroken will. Still, however great his strength is, Tanjiro relies heavily on his friends to put up with a fight. That being said, his strength was not at all the same as that of Yorichii.
While Tanjiro has reached very great heights and surpassed most of the Demon Slayers before him, it is unlikely that he has fully surpassed Yorichii. Natural-born talent, speed, and an overwhelming strength place him in a league of his own. Unlike Tanjiro, Yorichii was born with extraordinary abilities and an innate connection to the sun-breathing style that no one else has fully replicated.
However, Tanjiro’s strength lies in his adaptability and determination. Unlike Yorichii, whose life was filled with solitude and tragedy, Tanjiro’s bonds with his friends and his love for his family fuel his strength. If given enough time and experience, Tanjiro could potentially reach or even exceed Yorichii’s legendary status.

While Tanjiro Kamado has grown up to be one of the strongest Demon Slayers in history, he is not yet standing on the same pedestal as Yorichii Tsugikuni. With his unbeatable skills and abilities, Yorichii stands strongest. However, Tanjiro’s story proves that power doesn’t only revolve around sheer strength, but it relies on determination, heart, and the willingness to save people.
