One Piece latest episode 1122, “The Last Lesson – Impact Inherited” is another milestone episode in the series. Vice Admiral Garp and his marine soldiers arrive at the Pirate Island – Beehive to save the kidnapped Captain Koby by Blackbeard pirates. Tashigi, Helmeppo, Hibari accompanied by Monkey. D. Garp claims upper hands in their fight with the Blackbeard pirates with Garp’s Galaxy Impact. The fight between Garp and his old pupil Aokiji Kuzan gets to the crucial spot and Garp too suffers major injuries.
Impact of the Future of the Navy
Koby has been a major figure in One Piece since his introduction in the Romance Dawn Arc, where he shared his desire to become the strongest Marine with Luffy. Koby is also a reflector of Luffy’s personality. These episodes show both Luffy’s propositions and lack of seriousness, and Koby, who does not seem to be very confident. Their development is different: Koby wants to be a serious Marine; Luffy – the King of Pirates, so the main goals and initial goals of the characters represent two types of justice and ambitions.
Koby’s role as a possible Marine captain of the future introduced some degree of suspense to the overall plot. His dreams and goals may bear the brunt in the subsequent fight between the Marines and the pirates. The growth of Koby’s character has been a great venture starting from the Rocky Port Incident which made him the “Future hero of the Marines.”
The limelight of Koby’s character development starts with the Abolition of Warlords Arc where Koby arrives at Amazon Lily to capture Boa Hancock and makes himself a mere sacrifice to save Marine Admirals and Captains from the Blackbeard Pirates.
The Last Lesson - Garp and Koby
A backstory of Garp teaching Koby and other Marine apprentices what to do in a drastic situation when it comes to saving people, which was a great reflection of Koby’s character in the episode.
This story also points out a similarity between the two favorite pupils of Garp – Kuzan and Koby disagree with the teachings of Garp when he says to save only the future generation when it comes to saving an old man and a child.
Koby Unlocks his Honesty Impact
Garp gets injured by Shiryu when the Marines try to escape from the Pirate Island in the Warship. Pizzaro tries to attack and destroy the Marine ship with his giant fist, and this is where the Marines and Pirates of Beehive witness the Future Era of the Marines.
Koby, Grus, and Helmeppo team up to protect the Warship from Pizzaro, and Koby runs to break the stone hands of Pizzaro with his punch. When everyone in the Warship dives into the sea to save their lives and thinks of whether is there a way to escape, Captain Koby unleashes his true power of Impact – “The Honesty Impact.” Koby was secretly training himself just like Garp and Kuzan by punching the Giant Warship for years along with regular training to gain the strength of Impact fist and unlock his haki. Koby currently uses Arnament Haki and Observation Haki, that he awakened during the Marineford War.
Future Era of Navy
Koby destroys Pizzaro’s giant hand and protects the Marine Warship. While Garp sacrifices himself in the Pirate Island by letting the Marines get away. Garp being the older generation of Marine getting himself sacrificed to save the future of Navy which is very much similar to the Marineford War where Whitebeard backs up the fight to save the future era of Pirates.
This moment envisions the Future generation of Marine and Koby being the “Hero of the New era” that Garp awaited him to become. Egghead Arc sheds lights on the important role that Koby is holding in the Final Saga of One Piece.
Broken bond of Garp and Kuzan
Bond of Kuzan and Garp has been well portrayed in the series where Garp shares his grief of failing in turning his son and grandson into marines with his favorite pupil Kuzan. Aokiji gets his training under Garp, competing him in his fist training against a giant warship.
That is so because their perspective of justice differs especially when Kuzan leaves the Marine. And while Garp seems to embrace a more orthodox concept of justice, Kuzan is somewhat closer to going full shape-shifter on the idea – this is if one gets the idea that they were romantically entangled.
Garp is the strongest compared to Kuzan inspite of his age, however, battling against Kuzan and the Blackbeard pirates with his injury makes him to result in defeat of the Marine Hero. Kuzan defeats Garp covered with his frozen ice surrounded by the Blackbeard Pirates.
