Hunter X Hunter is famous for the uniquely well-written characters from the optimistic person Gon Freecss to the Cold-blooded person Meruem. The story explores the theme of good friendship, purpose, and the war between good and evil.
Colt
Colt is one of the most loyal servants of Queen Ant, and also a Squadron leader. He is quite powerful in combat and impressive in using Nen. In his past life of being human, he was the first person to be eaten by the queen. Colt was born with the ability to see Nen and was able to use it when Rammot attacked him. Unlike other Chimera ants, Colt’s loyalty was only towards the Queen. At first just like every Chimera ant Colt sees the humans as a threat but soon after the birth of the royal guards and Meruem his way of thinking was changed. Colt realized that the royal guards and Meruem don’t feel affection towards their fellow ant and the mother. During the final moments of the queen Colt even tries to offer his organs to protect her but Dr.Lee explains that it is not possible. This made him change sides with the Hunters and even worked with them.
Kurapika
Kurapika is one of the strongest Nen users in Hunter X Hunter. He is the only survivor of the Kurta clan. The clan that possesses the scarlet eyes is considered a Treasure, so the Phantom Troupe massacres the Kurta Clan and takes their eyes. During this incident, Kurapika was only 12 and he swore to kill every member of the Phantom Troupe all by himself. Kurapika was able to learn Nen and with his scarlet eyes, he was able to use all types of Nen and also made Nen contract to become powerful. But his strongest ability, the Judgement chain, will reduce his life span according to his usage. His overpowering ability is certainly a threat to the phantom.
Killua Zoldyck
Killua is the heir of the Zoldyck family and also an assassin. Even for a 12-year-old Killua was able to manipulate his body to kill people and was able to learn Nen much quicker. At first, Killua is shown as a cold-blooded murderer who only cares about leaving his family. During the Hunter exam arc, He made friends with Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio. He is unknowingly controlled by his brother, so Killua often stuns in a place when a problem arrives but in a fight with Rammot, he forcefully breaks himself from the control to protect Gon. Killua was tagging along with Gon’s journey because he didn’t have a goal of his own. However, In the Election Arc Killua finds his purpose to protect Alluka from his family, so Gon and Killua go different ways; it shows how Killua became mature throughout the series.
Meruem
Meruem is the King of the Chimera ant who is the most powerful character in the series. His motive is to use humans as a food source for the Chimera ant and to rule the world. He is depicted as the cold-blooded person in the series. His way of thinking was changed when he met a blind girl, Komugi, the only human that he respected. In a fight between Netro, Meruem suggested that he is willing to let humans have a life if they have enough potential. However, Netro declined his proposal knowing that the people without the potential would get killed. After the death of Netro, It was revealed that Meruem was poisoned by the nuclear bomb that Netro triggered. In his final moments, He went to see Komugi and revealed that he was dying and the poison was contiguous. He asked Komugi to leave him to die but she stayed with him knowing that she would die soon. In that time Meruem realized that all he ever wanted was to be with her. At last, he died happily in her arms.
Hisoka Morow
Hisoka’s character is sometimes very complex to understand mostly because he is unpredictable. He likes to challenge his strongest competitors and win a fight against them. Hisoka’s ability is simple but he is very good at using it. He not only likes to win but to win the game with style. During Heavens arena arc Hisoka was faced to fight Kastro. Kastro is also a really good fighter and his Nen ability allows him to create a Duplicate of himself. During that fight, Hisoka lost his one arm but tricked everyone that his arm was perfectly fine to confuse Kastro. Because of this confusion, Hisoka was able to win against him. He wanted everyone to think that he won the match effortlessly. He joined the Phantom Troupe just to fight someone and betrayed them by working with Kurapika to fight the Phantom Troupe Leader Chrollo Lucilfer. He doesn’t have any ulterior motive or goal like any other villain, He just likes to fight and win against strong people.
Gon Freecss
Gon is a very kind and pure-hearted kid. His main motive to start his journey is to find his dad. He went to the Hunter Exam to follow in the footsteps of his father. Gon is a very pessimistic person in every situation. During the Chimera ant arc, Gon, Killua, and Kite were faced with fighting Pitou. Kite asked both of them to run for their lives. However, Later they found Kite but his body was being controlled by Pitou’s Nen. This made Gon furious and changed his whole personality. Gon swore to kill Pitou and he was willing to give it all by risking his life, he made Nen contract to gain more power to fight Pitou. When he found out that Pitou already killed Kite and used his body as a weapon Gon went all out and killed Pitou. The power that he used put him in a state where he couldn’t use Nen ever again anymore.
